Change of Leadership
To our valued community members and supporters
I am writing to advise you that Mark Brooke has advised the Board of Directors of his intention not to continue as Chief Executive Officer for the third year of his contract for family health reasons.
Over recent months travelling as National CEO to HeartKids Sydney headquarters and throughout Australia has been difficult for Brisbane-based Mark and his family. To this end Mark will cease as CEO on 30 October 2018 and will take family leave from 7th September 2018. Mark will continue to support HeartKids working part time in a strategic role overseeing the National Childhood Heart Disease (CHD) Action Plan and the Conquering CHD Research Framework.
I am sure you will join with the Board in thanking Mark for his leadership over the last two years.
The Board and I want to reassure our valued community members and supporters that whilst Mark’s resignation was not anticipated our services will not be interrupted or impacted in anyway.
The National CHD Action Plan is now well advanced and work on this project, as well as the Conquering CHD Research Framework, will continue with support from the outgoing CEO and his now established team of highly capable General Managers.
It has been a long held strategic priority of the childhood heart disease community to enhance community and government understanding of the disease and the impact it has on infants, children, young people and adults. Our agenda including NDIS advocacy will continue to build on Mark’s hard work over the last twelve months into the future.
The Board is now in the process of recruiting a Chief Executive Officer to lead HeartKids’ next chapter. In the meantime, Rob Daly will be Acting CEO until the new CEO is appointed.
Again, thank you again for all your wonderful contributions and I am sure you will join me in thanking Mark and wishing him and his family well.
