Biography

Edward Buratto is a cardiothoracic surgeon who specialises in Paediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery. Having completed his adult cardiothoracic surgery training in Melbourne, he undertook 3 years of paediatric cardiothoracic surgery fellowship training at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. He subsequently undertook a further 2 years of advanced fellowship training in paediatric and adult congenital cardiothoracic surgery at the Children’s Hospital of New York – Columbia University in New York City, focusing on neonatal surgery, complex biventricular repairs and heart transplantation.

Ed has also completed his PhD on atrioventricular septal defects at the University of Melbourne, and has several ongoing research projects on aortic valve surgery, the Ross procedure, atrioventricular septal defects, congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries, left ventricular assist devices and the borderline left heart.

Ed performs all aspects of paediatric and adult cardiothoracic surgery including heart transplantation and ventricular assist devices. He has a particular interest in neonatal surgery, atrioventricular septal defects and aortic valve surgery for children and young adults. He currently works at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Melbourne Private Hospital.”
