He also collaborates with cardiothoracic surgeons to assess and manage high-risk cardiothoracic surgery patients and their pre, peri and post-operative care.
Biography
A/Prof Brown assesses and manages patients with severe left and right ventricular failure using inotropes and mechanical circulatory support and manages acute and chronic cardiac transplant patients. He also collaborates with cardiothoracic surgeons to assess and manage high-risk cardiothoracic surgery patients and their pre, peri and post-operative care.
Prior to joining Sydney Cardiology A/Prof Brown was a consultant cardiologist with the Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Unit at The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, Australia; the largest cardiothoracic hospital in southern hemisphere. He was also the heart failure and transplant representative for the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Unit and a member of the multidisciplinary TAVI, MitraClip and Melody valve teams.
A/Prof Brown has been head of departmental research at The Prince Charles Hospital since 2009, and has published 50 abstracts and peer-reviewed articles. He is a senior lecturer of medicine at the University of Queensland and a college supervisor of cardiology advanced trainees. He reviews articles for both Circulation and European Heart Journals and was awarded Fellowship to the European Society of Cardiology in 2012.
His interests are right ventricular failure, adult congenital heart disease, infiltrative cardiomyopathies, chemotherapy cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, and high-risk surgical cases.
