Biography

Prof Darren Walters is a structural interventional Cardiologist and has been one of the pioneers of structural interventions in Australia such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement and percutaneous mitral valve repair and replacement. He is Director of Cardiology at The Prince Charles Hospital and Visiting Medical Officer at St Vincent’s Brisbane (Holy Spirit Northside Hospital). Dr Walters has previous experience as Executive Director of both The Prince Charles and the Royal Brisbane Hospitals. He was previously Executive Director of the Heart and Lung Services of Metro North Health service incorporating five hospitals. He is a graduate of the University of Queensland and trained at The Royal Brisbane Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital and then as a Clinical and Research Fellow in Interventional Cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Queensland.
