The HeartKids Board is an essential part of our organisation, helping ensure we deliver the best possible support to people impacted by CoHD, in a way that is compliant, transparent, ethical and sustainable.
The HeartKids Board is responsible for the overall corporate governance of the organisation, including:
- Formulating its strategic direction;
- Approving and monitoring financial performance;
- Setting executive remuneration;
- Appointing, removing and creating policies;
- Establishing and monitoring the achievement of organisational goals; and
- Ensuring the integrity of internal control and management information systems.
The Board is also responsible for approving and monitoring finance and other reporting and compliance.
The HeartKids Board consists of at least nine and no more than twelve Directors. Our current board consists of ten Directors, with three of those Directors seeking re-appointment for a further term.
Who can be a Director?
In line with the HeartKids Constitution, you are qualified to become a Director if you have qualifications or experience in at least one of the following areas:
- CHD clinical practical
- CHD support or services
- research or education
- fundraising or community engagement
- financial management
- advocacy
- corporate governance
- business or law, or
- any other skill considered necessary by the Board to add value to the Board.
The Board needs to be representative of our community – at least three directors must have lived experience of CoHD (either Heart Kids, Heart Kid parents or Heart Angel parents), and the Board as a whole should be geographically diverse, with at least one Director from NSW/ACT, QLD, SA/NT, VIC/TAS and WA.
