More than 100 people joined HeartKids’ Two Feet and A Heartbeat walk at Springfield Central Sports Complex on Saturday.

More than 100 Ipswich community members put their best foot forward on Saturday, as HeartKids’ Two Feet and A Heartbeat walk brought together children and adults living with childhood-onset heart disease.

The event was held at Springfield Central Sports Complex. HeartKids philanthropy lead Mitz Wang said the walk, now in its 10th year, was an opportunity for the community to come together.

“It’s an event we do once a year,” Ms Wang said.

“This year’s Ipswich event is completely run by volunteers.”

Every day in Australia, eight babies are born with a heart condition, and many more will acquire a heart condition during childhood.

Around 250,000 Australians are living with childhood-onset heart disease, and an estimated one million Australians, including parents, carers and siblings, are affected.

HeartKids chief executive officer Samantha Glastonbury said Two Feet and A Heartbeat was much more than a fundraising walk.

“Every heart has a story,” Ms Glastonbury said.

“Every person who walks with us is showing children, young people, adults and families impacted by childhood-onset heart disease that they are not walking this journey alone.”

Funds raised help HeartKids provide information, support through HeartKids teams on hospital wards, connection and advocacy across every stage of the childhood-onset heart disease journey.

At the time of publishing, 2968 walkers had registered across 27 locations, including Ipswich, raising $245,000.
