About Us
Our Approach
Our History
HeartKids began nearly 50 years ago in Western Australia and Victoria, when parents came together to support one another through their children’s childhood-onset heart disease (CoHD) journeys. Parent-led groups soon formed in other states, united by the same purpose. Since then, HeartKids has grown into a national organisation standing beside families in every state and territory. We remain committed to supporting and advocating for all those impacted by CoHD, to improve standards of care, and create the best chance for more lives well lived.
Our Values
Our values reflect who we are, what we stand for, and how we show up each day — guiding how we support each other, those impacted by childhood-onset heart disease (CoHD), and how we work alongside our broader community and supporters.Â

Our Governance
As a charitable institution and Company Limited by Guarantee, HeartKids Limited is reliant upon community and corporate goodwill to achieve its goals.
As a community organisation, HeartKids also has considerable legislative, administrative and other accountabilities that need to be maintained to a high standard.
The Board is comprised of twelve Directors who bring expertise in congenital and acquired heart disease medicine, medical science and research, governance and executive management, finance, marketing and communications, not-for-profit administration, as well as extensive networks with the corporate, public and government sectors as well as the broader community.
HeartKids’ ASES Accreditation
At HeartKids, we are proud to be accredited under the Australian Service Excellence Standards (ASES), a nationally recognised quality framework that guides us to continually improve our services and ensure we deliver the best possible outcomes for the families and communities we support.
ASES accreditation is more than a badge, it is a reflection of our commitment to best practice, strong governance, and high-quality, person-centred support for those impacted by childhood-onset heart disease (CoHD). It demonstrates that HeartKids operates with transparency, accountability, and a genuine focus on creating a positive impact that is aligned with our values and the voices of our community.Â
Achieving and maintaining ASES accreditation helps us:
- Strengthen the way we work across all areas of the organisation,
- Build trust and confidence with the families and stakeholders we support, and
- Ensure our services continue to meet the evolving needs of the CoHD community.
Our ASES accreditation journey is part of our ongoing commitment to learning, growth, and excellence in everything we do. If you would like to learn more about the ASES framework and how we achieved this, visit the Australian Service Excellence Standards website.
