Living with childhood-onset heart disease (CoHD) or supporting someone who is can be overwhelming.


HeartKids offers a confidential mental health and wellbeing counselling service — a safe space to talk about everyday challenges, stress, grief and loss, loneliness, relationships, and coping strategies for difficult times.

Support for the whole HeartKids community

The service is open to:

  • Children and young people impacted by CoHD
  • Siblings of children with CoHD
  • Adults living with CoHD
  • Parents and carers

How sessions work

  • One-to-one counselling with a mental health and wellbeing counsellor
  • Sessions are offered nationally by phone or secure video call (telehealth style)
  • Flexible and private, wherever you are

Counselling can provide support to navigate:

  • Stress, anxiety and low mood
  • Coping strategies during difficult times
  • Grief and loss
  • Loneliness and isolation
  • Relationship challenges
  • General life issues

How to access HeartKids counselling:

To access the service, call the HeartKids Helpline on 1800 432 785.

A HeartKids Support Coordinator will talk with you and arrange a referral to the counselling service.
